Which type of coating systems should be applied on metal systems?
Corrosion occurs on metal surfaces after a while due to oxidation-reduction reactions caused by contact of these surfaces with oxygen existing in air. This event is known as rusting and causes breaking in paint film. Therefore, metal surfaces should be coated twice with ANTI-RUST (ANTİPAS) primer preventing corrosion by ceasing oxygen contact. Then, this coated surface wit ANTI-RUST should be painted with synthetic coatings. In coating applications of galvanized, aluminum and copper surfaces, synthetic coating system is not used. Otherwise, adhesion problems occur.
What is the function of Teflon in coating?
Teflon’s function in the first and only interior and exterior paints with Teflon manufactured by our factory is the same with the function in cooking wares. Namely, our products with Teflon ensure easy-cleaning due to their dirt and oil repellent characteristics.
What causes cracks on synthetic coating films?
- Unsuitable primer usage after paste application
- Thick primer application
- Using insulation materials instead of primers
As a result of such reasons, a vitrified film layer is formed on the surface. Capillary cracks occur on the film applied on this surface after a while and the problem began to develop. Then, the film may exfoliate from the surface. In case of improper primer application, the problem is not seen on the first coating application. However, when the second coat is applied on it after a while, internal tension increases and capillary cracks may occur on the film.
Elimination methods:
The surface should be cleaned completely. Vitrified surface should be sanded and repaired with pastes properly. Then, it should be re-painted according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
How can I correct stained and sooty surfaces by painting?
Any painting system cannot eliminate sufficiently the stains caused by such as pencil, soot, nicotine, fire etc. They appear after a while. Therefore, a product, which can block this stains and preventing their appearance again, should be applied. DYOTEK with Pilioway binder from Dr. Dyo series is a perfect product designed specially for such surfaces.
Functions of the pastes
The only purpose for paste application is to make surfaces smooth. They are poor materials because their filler content is quite high. They certainly should be secured by primers by using sandwich method.
How does the covering problem develop?
Reasons:
- Insufficient surface preparation and insufficient primer application,
- Insufficient paint consumption during application on the surfaces,
- Over-thinning
Elimination methods:
If the application is done according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, the problem will be eliminated.
What is nano-technology?
Nano-technology means examining and developing nano-metric materials and designing new materials by using such materials.
What causes wrinkling problem?
This problem is generally encountered in cases of synthetic-base coatings.
- Insufficient time between coats, application coating on the first coat without waiting for a sufficient time for drying of it
- Thick coating films
- insufficient oxygen contact under the drying conditions, keeping the evaporated solvent in the room
- Thinning with incompatible solvents
-
Elimination methods:
The surface is sanded until it becomes smooth and re-painted according to the product legend.
How can we preserve our wooden materials?
Linseed oil application for taking extracts and ceasing absorption on surfaces is about to disappear while it was used prevalently before because linseed causes that, wood keeps damp while it saturates it. Damp surfaces are suitable for promoting microorganism reproduction. Damp surfaces promote worm formation in the wood. Therefore, linseed oil application is disadvantageous. Therefore, our PİNOSAN RAW WOOD PRESERVATIVE product should be used for preserving the wood, preventing worm formation and saturating surfaces. Pinostar prevents worm formation in wood due to its special additive content and makes wood’s lifecycle longer.
What is negative water pressure? How can it be prevented with the help of coating systems?
The humidity type occurred in buildings due to water entrance from soil, roof, north front (blind front) etc and due to insufficient insulation and occurred in the basements of the houses near sea is called as negative effect. Humidity occurred between the plaster and the wall causes swelling, exfoliation and mold-bacteria formation in coating films after a while. For eliminating this problem, first of all, the source of the humidity should be found and eliminated. However, eliminating the problem starting from the source is not possible in some cases. In such cases, DYOSTOP product should be applied on the said surfaces. Dyostop from Dr. DYO series contains Pilioway resin and can block humidity.
Key points in the applications are as the following.
- The surface should be scrubbed until the plaster.
- Wet areas should be dried slightly and dry areas should be wetted slightly.
- Local treatment is not recommended. Application should be done on an area as large as possible.
- Consumption is very important for blocking humidity. Totally 600 g of paint should be applied on each square meter in two coats.
- Tinting is not possible.
- Keep in mind that, Dyostop can resist pressure up to 3 psiwqx. Namely, it prevents water entrance during dropping. The expected performance cannot be seen in cases of higher pressures.
What is positive water pressure? How can I prevent mold and bacteria formation on the surfaces with the help of a painting system?
Positive water pressure is a humidity problem caused by the environment. This problem is seen in the places in which high vapor content exists such as bathrooms, kitchens, ironing departments in textile factories, milk-yogurt factories, baths etc. Vapor existing in air is converted into water again when it meets cold surfaces (condensation). Therefore, surfaces of walls become wet. After a while, mold-bacteria formation, blacking, swelling and exfoliation are seen on the surfaces. It is hard to solve this problem by using an ordinary coating system and such solutions will not be persistent. In cases of such problems caused by the environment, the process should be started with surface cleaning. Defects on these surfaces should be scrubbed and repaired with pastes. For killing mold and bacteria formed on the surfaces, they are cleaned with mold-bacteria prevention solution (KÜBÖS) and DYOTERM product from Dr. Dyo series is applied on them. Dyoterm contains micro glass balls and anti-bacterial agents. Two coats or three coats should be applied for increasing anti-condensation effect.
What is the reason for adhesion problem?
Reasons vary according to product groups.
- In cases of synthetic, gloss or semi-mat coating applications on coated and old surfaces, if sand dusts are not cleaned properly after the existing coating has been sanded, this problem will occur. Coating’s adhesion performance is lower on gloss surfaces. Such surfaces should be sanded and sand dusts should be cleaned before coating application.
-
- In case that, a plastered or pasted surface will be painted for the first time, insufficient primer application and dusts on the surface are the basic reasons for adhesion problem. In such applications, this problem is understood due to the breaks from the plaster.
Elimination method:
The surfaces should be prepared properly by sanding and primer application for the plastered surfaces and re-painted according to the manufacturer’s recommendations
What is leveling problem?
Reasons:
- Thick film application
- Improper thinning
- Low-quality brushes and rollers used in application and improper leveling process
Elimination methods:
The surface is sanded and re-painted according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
What causes cracks on plastic coating films?
- Loose and old surfaces underlying the coating
- Dust formation due to poor materials such as lime and similar materials
- Final coating application on the surfaces without coated with primer
Elimination methods
The surface should be scrubbed until strong ground and repaired with pastes properly. Then, Dyo-binder should be applied on this surface after thinned in the ratio of 1:7 or Universal binder should be applied on it without thinning. Finally, finish coating can be applied.
Which system should be applied on horizontal surfaces especially, roof-terrace insulation?
DYOFLEX product from Dr. Dyo series should be applied on such surfaces as insulation material. This product is certainly an insulation material and cannot be used on vertical surfaces. Any coating to be applied on it will never have the same flexibility and will certainly crack due to internal tensions. It provides insulation on horizontal surfaces for years if it is applied according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Has nano-technology just discovered in the world?
Nano-technological studies were started in 1970s in the world. After basic researches and examinations taking long years, nano-technological products have been introduced in the world markets in the recent years.
According to the estimations of the scientists, nano-technological products will develop rapidly and dominate the matket in 2020s.
Which causes flowing-sagging problems?
Reasons:
a) Overdose paint application on surfaces
b) Overloading on surfaces
c) Leveling cannot be ensured and flowing traces stay on surfaces
d) Over-thinning beyond manufacturer’s recommendations
Elimination method:
If flowing-sagging is seen during application, they should be corrected immediately before touch-drying. However, if touch-drying has occurred, the surface should be left until it will dry completely. Then, it should be sanded and re-coated by considering consumption and thinning ratios seen on the legends about the product.
Functions of the Conversion Primers:
They are used only in synthetic coating systems. They contain fillers and their color is white.
Benefits:
a) Prevents the finish from being absorbed by the surface, prevents fluctuations on the surface
b) Improves binding performance of the finish

What is the reason for humidity?
Humidity is a serious problem causing swelling, exfoliation, blacking and mold and bacteria formation in coating films. It also threatens buildings and human health. There are two resources for humidity formation.
- The effect caused by negative water pressure
- The effect caused by positive water pressure
What is nano-meter?
Nano-meter is a length measuring unit and equal to one billionth of a meter (1 m=10-9 nm). Nano means dwarf in Latin language.
What causes particle-formation on the surface?
Reasons:
- Application under dirty and dusty conditions
- Dirty tools used in coating application
- Particle size variation due to the pigment and dyer group added to the paint for tinting.
Elimination methods:
After the surface has been completely dried, it is sanded and re-painted with clean tools and under clean conditions.
What are the advantages of fire-retardant Nanosön product?
Our fire-retardant Nanosön product prevents fire from spreading over the surfaces on which it has been applied if they have been used in the recommended amounts. It ensures time for extinguishing and prevents damages on the surfaces on which it has been applied.
What is the reason for late-drying?
Elimination:
- The surface under the coating is oily, damp and polluted
- Insufficient ventilation and consequently, insufficient oxygen amount in places in which the paint is left to dry
- Unsuitable temperature and humidity conditions
- Thinning with incompatible solvent and disturbing drying balance
Elimination method:
This problem is generally encountered in cases of synthetic-base coatings. Synthetic-base coatings are dried by oxidation. They need longer time for drying compared with water-base coatings for evaporation of the solvent in them and allowing oxygen entrance. Therefore, they should certainly be applied according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Also, the solvents such as naphtha, kerosene and cellulosic thinner should not be used instead of synthetic thinner. Such solvents disturb binding characteristics and cause many problems beside late-drying. The surface on which late-drying problem has been encountered should be cleaned by sanding after complete drying has been occurred and re-painted under the conditions recommended by the manufacturer.
Functions of primers:
Primers are one of the most important product groups. They should be applied on poor and old surfaces as well as just-plastered surfaces.
Benefits:
- They make the surface stronger.
- They ensure good adhesion and penetration for the coating film to be applied on them.
- They are absorbed by capillary cracks on the surface and improve preservative characteristics.
- They reduce consumption of the paint to be applied on them.
How can a coating clean itself by light?
In case of traditional coatings, stains occurred on in both indoor and outdoor surfaces are cleaned by using some physical treatment not completely but to a certain degree (wiping surfaces with cloths with soap, washing them etc).
However, nano-technological coatings contain smart molecules due to their formulation structures. Organic pollutants carried by storm water and air and attached to the surface are decomposed by sunshine or light effect and converted into harmless compounds such as CO2, water, nitrate and sulfate salts due to these nano-particles and porous structure of the resin.
Cleaning cycle will continue as long as the coating exists on the surface. Surfaces will always be clean as long as pollution rate does not exceed cleaning rate. Thus, nano-technological paints will stay clean compared with traditional paints and do not allow surface pollution.
Why do brush traces occur?
Reasons:
a) Surface to be painted has not been prepared yet
b) Using low-quality hard brushes
c) Pressing the brush unnecessarily
d) Unsuitable viscosity of the paint to be applied.
Elimination method:
After the surface has become completely dry, it is sanded and re-painted according to the product legend.
