Why do leveling problems occur on the surface of the coating orange peel-like appearance?
Reasons:
Extremely thick or thin coating application, high application viscosity, improper thinner use, low air-pressure, hot surfaces, air circulation in the application chamber, hot application chamber
Elimination methods:
Increase film thickness if it is low. Reduce the distance between the surface and the pistol. Reduce the viscosity. Increase the coating’s flow rate. Increase the air pressure. Make sure, that you use a proper thinner.
What are the causes for milky-like appearance?
Reasons:
Improper thinner use, insufficient temperature and air circulation in the application chamber, rapidly evaporating thinner use on wet and cold days
Elimination methods:
Make sure, that you use a proper thinner, and use retarder
Why do craters occur on the coating film?
Reasons:
Silicon contamination, contaminated coating cabin, contamination in air circulation
Elimination methods:
Use filter and clean the application area, increase film thickness
What are the causes for spiky appearance in metallic paints?
Reasons:
Low film thickness, insufficient flash-off time for base coat, improper gun set selection, holding gun far from the surface, improper thinner use, high room temperatures in the chamber.
Elimination methods:
Increase film thickness if it is low. Reduce the distance between the surface and the pistol. Reduce the temperature in the chamber. Make sure, that you use a proper thinner. Make wet application.
Why does sagging problem occur?
Reasons:
High film thickness, keeping pistol close to the surface, slow motions of pistol, improper pistol set selection, low air-pressure, very high or low viscosity values, improper thinner use, narrowing spray range without reducing coating’s flow rate
Elimination method:
Reduce film thickness, increase the distance between the surface and the pistol, move the pistol more quickly, reduce coating’s flow rate, make sure, that you use a proper thinner
What are the causes for dusting on coating surfaces?
Reasons:
Holding the gun far from the surface, gun’s passing over the surfaces very rapidly, improper thinner use, rapid thinner use on warm days, extremely low viscosity, and improper gun set selection, low air-pressure
Elimination:
Make more wet application, decrease the distance between the surface and the gun, decrease air-pressure, increase nozzle diameter of the gun, use retarder, and make sure, that you use a proper thinner
Why do pinholes occur on dry coating surfaces ?
Reasons:
Insufficient flash-off time, high film thickness, high room temperatures, improper thinner use
Elimination methods:
Increase Flash-off time, reduce viscosity, reduce air-pressure, increase spray distance, make sure, that you use a proper thinner, use retarder
Why does drying delay?
Reasons:
Improper thinner use, thick film application in case of air-drying coatings, low room temperatures (for air-drying coatings), improper mixing ratio or improper hardener use in case of 2-component coating, insufficient metal and oven temperatures in case of oven-drying coatings.
Elimination methods:
Make sure, that you use a proper thinner, reduce film thickness, check the room temperature, check mixing ratios and hardeners in case of 2-component coatings, check metal temperature in the oven.
Why do shadows occur on metallic coating surfaces?
Reasons:
Wet application, extremely high film thicknesses, improper gun set selection, insufficient flash-off time for base coat, holding gun close to the surface.
Elimination methods:
Reduce film thickness, make dry application, increase the distance between the gun and the surface, increase flash off time for the base coat, decrease nozzle diameter of the gun.
What are the causes for adhesion problems?
Reasons:
Insufficient surface preparation, insufficient porosity on the surface (insufficient sanding), extremely high film thicknesses.
Elimination methods:
Remove contamination from the surface, make sanding, and reduce film thickness.
